Guest of Honour - Apoxon

Apoxon's Fursona Photo of Apoxon

Apoxon is a textile artist from Surrey, BC, best known for making hoodies, kigurumis, and furry-themed plush food props.

Their first furry event was a small one-day convention held at the Compass Point Inn, in Surrey, BC, back in 2009. If you know, you know! They were too shy to say hello to anyone and spent the afternoon enjoying the convention sketching in a corner, determined to make one of those 'fursuits' everyone was wearing.

The next year they attended a Halloween walk downtown (in their fancy new fursuit!) and noticed a few fursuit handlers wearing animal hoodies. When asked, a handler was kind enough to point Apoxon in the direction of an online tutorial, and after sewing a few for themself and friends, they started taking commissions for custom work.

Business was steady while Apoxon was in university, and they were able to take commissions full time as a summer job. They enjoyed it so much that they continued to do so on the side, even after completing university and working as a substitute English and Social Studies teacher. In 2020 when schools closed due to the pandemic, Apoxon chose to dive headlong into sewing full time, and has been a full-time freelancer ever since.

Still a teacher at heart, they enjoy hosting educational panels at conventions on topics near and dear to them. It's not uncommon to find Apoxon hosting panels on sewing, running a small furry-centered business, and of course, DINOSAURS!

When they're not busy at their sewing machine, drawing up new designs, or traveling for conventions, they can be found rock hunting, or hiking in the woods with their spouse, friends, or adventure-cat.

Community Spotlight - Astra Ether

Astara's Avali Astara's Imp

Astra Ether (They/Them) has been part of the fandom for more than 20 years, as a Quebec born dragon that transitionned to a more Eldritch 3-eyed Squid imp and a motherly blue Teshari.

While they have only moved in British Columbia in the recent years, Astra has been invested in improving convention staff support by taking over the conmom team from Vancoufur and bringing that departement to every conventions on the west side of Canada. Theses conventions include Vancourfur, Howloween, Vancouver Pony Expo and FurEh.

While as a proffession, they are Software Developper, Consultant and Mentor, their presence on the fandom is mostly social work and structure.

When not focused on the local fandom, Astra is a moderate enjoyer of animes and games of all sorts, with a dedication for the game Orna.

Thinker of sort, Astra's home is one of a giant garden in the backyard and a messy office full of thinkering projects from 3d printing to model painting to electronic programming and more.
